Monica Paz

The milongueros I interviewed danced with these great orchestras of the best era of tango. They danced with these live orchestras playing in the same room, can you imagine dancing to Troilo and he is right there in front of you? Imagine! I danced with these milongueros who were there, in this era. I talked with them and learned from them. Most of them are not here any more; but, I carry them in my heart and their dance is with me. I would love to share my tango heritage with you.

Classes will start on time, please arrive a few minutes before to warm up.

Wednesday, June 25

  • 12:00 - 1:30 PM: Omar "Chiche" Ruberto: "We are so connected that I feel that if I sneeze, you sneeze with me."
Learn the connection secrets of the old milongueros. Chiche, a great milonguero, was one of my best teachers. Many years ago, he chose me as his milonga partner. We also danced vals and tango together, but we almost never missed a milonga tanda together. He never knew how much I learned by dancing with him. Many considered him the best dancer. He had an incredible musicality and transmitted a lot in his dance. Chiche passed away in February of 2020. The milongas have never been the same for me. I carry with me all I learned from him and our years of dancing together at the milongas in Buenos Aires. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with you.

  • 3:30 - 5:00 PM: Ricardo Maceiras: "Going to the milonga is not going to a gym."
Optimize the way you move so your movements are not mechanical, but an expression of how you feel the music.

Thursday, June 26

  • 12:00 - 1:30 PM and 3:30 - 5:00 PM: Alberto Dassieu: "Dancing Pugliese is not the same as D'Arienzo."
Refine your interpretation of the music by becoming an instrument in the orchestra. Dancing in harmony with the music will make each tanda more enjoyable for you and your partner. Strive to savor each song, down to each note.

With more than 25 years dancing and learning with the milongueros of Buenos Aires, Monica developed her teaching methodology based on these experiences and her analysis of milonguero movements. In her classes, she shares these secrets with you so that your tango, your whole tango, will improve incredibly. These are not sequences or "steps."
