Monica Paz

The milongueros I interviewed danced with these great orchestras of the best era of tango. They danced with these live orchestras playing in the same room, can you imagine dancing to Troilo and he is right there in front of you? Imagine! I danced with these milongueros who were there, in this era. I talked with them and learned from them. Most of them are not here any more; but, I carry them in my heart and their dance is with me. I would love to share my tango heritage with you.

About Monica Paz

Monica has taught and performed in Argentina, Brazil, Europe, the U.K., and the U.S., bringing the soul of traditional tango to dancers around the world.

Born into tango in Buenos Aires, Monica grew up with a milonguero father and began formal study in 1996. She holds degrees in tango dance and history, but her most profound education came from dancing for decades with true milongueros, in the heart of the tango world.

Many of the older generation have passed on, but their legacy lives on. "I was, I am... very lucky. What I've been privileged to experience is a world that is no longer directly available for most of the global tango community. The opportunity to live in Buenos Aires, dance with the old milongueros, listen deeply to what they say—and what they said between the lines."

Experiencing the very essence, of Tango—this is what Monica strives to teach; not just to share her own love of the dance, but to pass along a taste of this essence, that it may be experienced by future generations.

"I don't teach you WHAT to do, but HOW TO DANCE! This is my challenge for you: Be the partner that everyone wants to dance with."
